Our Commitment

At Rockett St George our mission is to source sustainable and eco-friendly products, additional packaging and materials wherever possible to minimise our impact on the environment.

This applies to both our housekeeping (general running of our business and offices) and in the process of sourcing, designing and producing our own products and the additional materials we use to dispatch parcels to our customers. As well as complying with all relevant regulatory requirements, we work continuously to improve and monitor and reduce our impact on the environment. We have incorporated environmental factors into our core business decision-making and continue to improve and increase employee awareness and training.

Our Collections

We are developing more of our own brand designs to give us better control over the use of more sustainable and eco-friendly materials, as well as improving the manufacturing and production methods that are available to us.

In 2020, approximately 10% of our online collection was made up of our own brand items which include Furniture, Lighting, Accessories, Wallpaper, Paint, and Rugs. Our aim was to double this figure by the end of 2021 with the view of achieving at least 50-60% own-brand items in the next 5 years.

As of 2023 our own brand items make up approximately 30% of our online collection, bringing us closer to our 5 year target.

What We've Done

Our own-brand collection currently makes up 30% of our product offering

By setting ourselves this goal we are able to make better business decisions with regards to our products and empower our customer with the ability to make greener choices when purchasing unique homeware. In addition, for our curated collections, there will be a focus on sourcing new and exciting British designers, artists, and manufacturers that are committed to sourcing items that are made from eco-friendly materials wherever possible.

"Sustainability is at the heart of modern-day contemporary design. As the demand for beautiful interiors continues to grow, so does our responsibility as a British brand to go beyond legal and regulatory requirements to provide more eco-conscious products for our forward-thinking customers."

– Jane Rockett, Co-Founder & Director

"Our aim is to help people create living spaces that are not only unique to them but also enhance the lives of others while caring for our planet. Furthering our knowledge on sustainability has become a top priority to help us achieve our goals."

Our Packaging

We aim to use zero non-recyclable or non-bio-degradable plastic in our packaging by end of 2021 and improve the packaging that our suppliers use to send products to our warehousing. This year we are proud to have sourced an eco-friendly alternative to bubble wrap to use as additional packaging for all outgoing parcels from our Sussex Warehouse. You can read more about the materials we use to package your orders below as well as the efforts we have made this year.

Our Recycling & Waste Management

We provide recycling bins throughout the building in both working and social areas and actively encourage our employees to recycle, reuse and avoid unnecessary use of water and electricity whenever possible.

Broken products that are not suitable for re-sale in our outlet shop are placed in a skip which is collected by Biffa. The contents of the skip is then taken to a transfer station which sorts the commodities for onward recycling. The general waste is shredded & baled for Refused Derived Recycling which produces energy from waste. You can read more information on this process via the Biffa website.

We use milk & more to deliver our dairy and dairy-free milk. It’s a small change but it has had a big impact on the amount of packaging we consume. The glass milk bottles are collected each week and re-filled for future local deliveries.

To reduce our consumption of packaging and waste.

  • We recycle any polystyrene packaging that we receive from suppliers.
  • We recycle any damaged product through either outlet sale or Biffa recycling.
  • We have reduced our food packaging consumption by using a milkman.

Our Energy Usage

Until autumn 2022 in our Sussex headquarters, we have used renewable electricity company Ecotricity. On the advice of Ecotricity themselves we have moved to British Gas until the price of energy settles down. We will move back to a a renewable energy provider as soon as this happens.

“Switching to green energy is the biggest single thing – and the easiest thing – that any business or person can do to cut their emissions that cause air pollution and climate change.” - Dale Vince, Ecotricity founder.
